Evgeny started play chess in 1993, when he was 5 years old and since that time never lost interest at this game. He won school tournaments among children under 10, when he was in grade 3. Also, in grade 6 Evgeny participated in tournament of Irkutsk city for children under 17, and achieved 4th place. At age of 17 Evgeny came to Canada, where continued to play chess online. He studied physics at Simon Fraser University and currently works as a physics teacher as well as chess coach.
