Stephen Wright

Coach's biography

A tournament player since 1980, Stephen Wright achieved the title of National Master in 1996, at the same time attaining a peak rating of 2343. He has won many Swiss events, and in 2000 tied for third in the B.C. Championship, a mere half point behind winners Dragoljub Milicevic and Jonathan Berry (both of whom he defeated). Stephen served as Junior Coordinator on the BCCF executive 2001-2006, followed by two years as President; he has also edited the BCCF Bulletin since 2002. A chess historian, Stephen contributes regularly to the Canadian Chess Newsletter and originated and maintains the BC Chess History website. In recent years he has exchanged the role of player for that of organizer and tournament director, and has been an accredited arbiter with the World Chess Federation since 2007. Stephen has taught chess both privately and in schools for the last fifteen years, and his students have won provincial and national championships and have gone on to represent Canada internationally.
