Coach's biography

A tournament player since 1980, Stephen Wright achieved the title of National Master in 1996, at the same time attaining a peak rating of 2343. Stephen served as Junior Coordinator on the BCCF executive 2001-2006, followed since by eight years as President; he has also edited the BCCF Bulletin since 2002. A chess historian, Stephen contributes regularly to various CFC publications and originated and maintains the BC Chess History website. In recent years he has exchanged the role of player for that of organizer and tournament director, has been an accredited arbiter with the World Chess Federation since 2007, and has directed most of BC`s major tournaments multiple times (Keres, BC Open, BC Closed, BCYCC). Stephen has taught chess both privately and in schools for the last twenty years, and his students have won provincial and national championships and gone on to represent Canada internationally.
