2014 CYCC and CO (Montreal) : Great news!

We have great news for chess players from all around Canada.
As you probably already know, Montreal will organize the 2014 CYCC and CO. Our goal was, and still is, to make of the Canadian Open the biggest tournament of the past 30 years and to offer incredible playing conditions for CYCC participants.
We are glad to announce that we secured an incredible venue for the tournaments : the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. It is, we believe, the first time that both the CYCC and the CO are held in a five-star hotel (the 2007 CYCC was held at the Fairmont Château Laurier, but not the CO). However, what is great about this deal is that players will only have to pay half of what the rooms usually cost (and less than a typical three-star hotel at that time of the year).

Both the CYCC and CO will be held during the Just for Laughs festival, the biggest humoristic festival in the World. People from all ages will enjoy a giant maze, shows, concerts, outdoor activities and hundreds of board games (and all this for free). The advantageous location of the hotel, in the middle of Downtown Montreal, right above Montreal’s train station and next to hundreds of restaurants and Montreal’s Chinatown will sure be a great plus for participants.

However, we even have better news! Thanks to the great deal we got from the hotel, we decided to raise the prize fund of the Canadian Open. The prize fund will now be of $25 000 (projected, but at least $20 000 guaranteed), while keeping entry fees as low as possible (probably starting at about $50!).

CYCC participants will be able to enjoy more activities, huge trophies and free entry for the Canadian Open! No profit will be made with this tournament, and all the surplus will be given back to the youth. You surely don’t want to miss this tournament! Winners will also have the incredible opportunity of going to the WYCC in South Africa, in one of Africa’s most touristic cities.

The Quebec Chess Federation Presents the 2014 Canadian Youth Chess Championships

The 2014 CYCC will be organized by the Quebec Chess Federation. Founded in 1967, the Quebec Chess Federation regroups more than a 1000 members in Quebec, and organizes many tournaments, like the Quebec Open (typically about 275 players), the Quebec Junior Championship and the Quebec Youth Championships. The Quebec Chess Federation also publishes a bi-monthly paper magazine and has its own rating system.
For more details about the Quebec Chess Federation, please visit its website : www.fqechecs.qc.ca

Venue

The tournament will be held in the "Grand Salon" of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, a famous five-stars hotel in Montreal. For more details, please visit the "Venue" section.
Please note that all rooms must be booked before June 10, 2014 (no exception), but the rooms might actually be all gone before that (first come first served).
Players will benefit from an incredible rate of $135/night for rooms with one or two beds. This is much cheaper than the usual rate (about $250) and even cheaper than what three-stars hotels will charge at that time of the year. Please note that the rates are for a maximum of 2 adults and 2 kids, or 1 adults and 3 kids. Additional fees of 20$/night will be charged per additional adult. Bookings must be done by phone at 514-861-3511 or 1-800-441-1414 (1-506-863-3601 for participants who are not from Canada or the United States).
