Vancouver Chess School Summer Chess Adventure 2014 (confirmed)
Our School Vancouver Chess School provides professional chess educational program to students from beginners to advanced tournament players. We believe that in the process of learning, playing and competing in chess, children learn valuable skills of concentration, abstract reasoning, and rational problem-solving, while tapping into their creativity and originality. The best part is that the children have fun while learning these lessons. Our Summer Camps If your children have not tried chess before, our summer camp is a great way to give them a head start into our comprehensive program. If your children have some experience in chess, they will have some great fun in a variety of tournament activities to further polish their skills. Our coaches will assess the campers on their first day and place them at their appropriate levels as follows: New to Chess This program covers the basic understanding of chess pieces, their values, game rules, and check- mates. Our one-week camp curriculum is equivalent to our Pawn Level Module #1 set. Upon completion of the camp, the campers will be ready to enroll in Module #2 set in September to continue their chess education. Intermediate This program is for players who have basic knowledge of chess rules, and are ready to participate in chess tournaments. Our program includes daily fun tournaments and game analysis.
Camp Daily Schedule All camps run from Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Check our webpage at http://www.vanchess.ca/eventsfor complete program outlines. Here are samples of our interactive activities: o Chess lessons using electronic presentations, and videos. o Chess Tournaments in a variety of fun formats: Rapid, Blitz, Bughouse, Blindfold. o Chess Puzzle exercises, Game Analysis, Chess Simultaneous Exhibitions * All activities are subject to change without notices.
What to bring Please bring lunch, snacks, and water. No lunch re-heating service available. Please note that our school is a nut-free zone. All full day students will receive a Vancouver chess camp T-shirt. *Please leave your electronic gadgets at home. Drop off/Pick up We ask campers to arrive between 9:00-9:30am to check in. Campers must be signed in at drop off and signed out at pick up by authorized individuals. Staffs are not responsible for campers before 9:30am and after 3pm unless they are registered in “Before and After Camp Care”. A $20 late pick up fee may be charged. Fees: 5-Day Camp: Monday to Friday o Full Day: 9:30am – 3:00pm >> $300 Sibling discount $100 off for 2nd or higher member of the family o Half AM: 9:30am – 11:30am >> $150. Early bird & sibling discount – not applicable o Half PM: 1:00pm – 3:00pm >> $150. Early bird & sibling discount – not applicable o Before and after camp care: Early drop off: $10 per hour (8:30-9:30am) After hour pick up: $10 per hour (3:00-4:00pm) o A late pick up fees of $20 may be charged after the camp hour.
You can register online at http://www.vanchess.ca/events. Popular weeks sell out quickly, so enroll early to avoid disappointment. Camp space is reserved with full payment online. You must complete the registration form and return to VCS office before the first day of the registered camp. We also accept Cash or cheque (payable to Max Chess Academy Ltd.) Policies VCS reserves the right to refuse admission or dismiss any participants from camp in order to ensure the safety and enjoyment of fellow participants. English communication skills are essential. Cancellation, Withdrawal & Refunds VCS reserves the right to cancel a camp by 3pm on the Monday one week prior to the start date. In such cases, all fees for a cancelled program will be refunded. Withdrawal with refund may be requested in writing more than one week prior to programs start date. Any withdrawals or changes will be subject to a $30 administrative fee. There are NO REFUNDS given for withdrawals requested less than one week prior to the first day of the camp or at any time during the camp. Pro-rated refunds are NOT available for days absent from a registered camp. Photography VCS reserves the right to use any photos taken during the summer camp for promotional purposes, unless parents request in writing that their child’s image not appear in any promotional literature.
