9th Annual Grand Pacific Open   

Easter 2015 April 3-6 Victoria, BC   A 6 round FIDE & CFC rated Swiss $5000 Guaranteed Prize Fund  The Grand Pacific Open is BC's largest chess tournament and this will be it's 9th annual!    The main event is a 6 round FIDE and CFC rated Swiss with $5000 in prizes.  The Victoria Youth Chess Championship will run just before the main event and  there are also  two free side events   -  Midnight Blitz with $100 in prizes and a Bughouse tournament to finish off the weekend.

Side Event Details: 

Victoria Youth Championship: A CYCC qualifier for juniors. April 3.  Open to all BC students (Canadian and International) born in 1998 or later. Players who score 50% or top 3 and meet Chess Federation of Canada requirements for residency or citizenship to qualify for the Canadian Youth Chess Championships. Players compete in age categories: U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18. Start time 10:00 am Reg.: 9:30 – 9:45 am (some sections may be combined). Time Control: G30. 5 round Swiss or round robin depending on numbers in each section Prizes: Medals and ribbons.  CFC active and CMA rated.  Entry fee $25.

 

Midnight Blitz   Free Entry (even if not in the GPO) April 4 10pm or ASAP to midnight, G/5min, 5 double round Swiss, 1st $50, U1800 $25, U1500 $25

Grand Pacific Bughouse Free Entry (even if not in the GPO) April 21 2:30pm - 4pm, G/5min, 5 round Swiss

Round Times Rd 1 at 6:00 pm Friday April 3; Rds 2 and 3 at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm Saturday April 4; Rds 4 and 5 at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm Sunday April 5; Rd 6 at 10:00 am Monday April 6

Time Control: Game in 90 minutes with a 30 second increment

 

Entry Fee , $80 registered and paid on or before Feb. 23, $90  registered and paid  on or before March 30, $100  on site.   Discount of $20 if rated U1400 or unrated.    NEW You may play up a section up to 200 rating points above your rating lifetime high.  Add $20 if playing up a section.    First time players who meet the conditions listed on our Policies page have a one year CFC membership included in entry fee otherwise non CFC members add $16 (adult) or $8 (junior).  2nd & higher entries from one family receive a family discount of $30.
