Our School

Vancouver Chess School provides professional chess educational program to students from beginners to advanced tournament players. We believe that in the process of learning, playing and competing in chess, children learn valuable skills of concentration, abstract reasoning, and rational problem-solving, while tapping into their creativity and originality. The best part is that the children have fun while learning these lessons.

Camp Daily Schedule

All camps run from Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm

 

Chess Camp – for chess enthusiasts – full day chess learning and games 

Chess lessons using electronic presentations and videos 

Chess Tournaments in a variety of fun formats: Rapid, Blitz, Bughouse, Blindfold 

Chess Puzzle exercises, Game Analysis, Chess Simultaneous Exhibitions

Camp Outline: New to chess , Intermediate & Advanced

 

Combination camp -- Half-day chess learning, half-day other fun activities  

 

Chess & Robotics Camp 

Robotics:  We organize our program based on STEM concepts with hands-on activities and challenging friendly competition.     

Campers will have many opportunities to work on their skills as follows:

Chess & Soccer Camp 

Let your kids enjoy summer outside and play soccer. It is a great outdoor sport activity that will bring kids lots of fun, new friends and good physical shape. Your child will develop technical and tactical playing ability and also will learn: 

Movement training  

Strategy and position drilling 

Passing   

Goaltending 

 

Chess & Arts Camp 

Arts camps not only inspire kids, but also challenge their creative thinking and imagination. Kids explore and learn how to express their ideas and creativity in their own unique ways using: 

Drawing 

Painting 

Mixed media 

Sculpture & more

 

What to bring 

Please bring lunch, snacks, and water. No lunch re-heating service available.   

Please note that our school is a nut-free zone. 

Please leave your electronic gadgets at home.  

 

Drop off/Pick up 

We ask campers to arrive between 9:00-9:30am to check in. Please print and summit the consent form on the first day of camp. You will find this form in our email. Campers must be signed in at drop off and signed out at pick up by authorized individuals. We are not responsible for campers before 9:30am and after 3pm unless they are registered in “Before and After Camp Care”.  A $20 late pick up fee may be charged. Before and after camp care is available at $10 per hour.

 

Fees:  5-Day Camp:  Monday to Friday  

o   Full Day: 9:30am – 3:00pm >> $350 on or before May 31. $450 on or before Jun 26. Sibling discount $100 off for 2nd or higher member of the family 

o   Half day: 9:30-11:30am or 1:00-3:00pm >>> $180 on or before May 31. $280 on or before Jun 26. No sibling discount 

o   Before and after camp care: Early drop off: $10 per hour (8:30-9:30am) After hour pick up: $10 per hour (3:00-5:00pm) 

o   A late pick up fees of $20 may be charged after the camp hour

 

Camp space is reserved with full payment online. We also accept Cash or cheque (payable to Max Chess Academy Ltd.)

 

Vancouver Chess School Chess Camp T-shirt 

All Full day (9:30am-3:00pm) campers will receive a free T-shirt from VCS 

Half day campers will have an option to purchase the T-shirt for $30

 

Policies 

VCS reserves the right to refuse admission or dismiss any participants from camp in order to ensure the safety and enjoyment of fellow participants. English communication skills are essential.

 

Confirmation:  

Minimum enrollment of 4 students is required before we confirm the camp will take place. When the camp is confirmed, we will mark Confirmed on our “Events” page on the website and on the flyer, then we notify you by email 5 days prior to the start date. A full refund will be given if minimum enrollment requirement is not met to run the camp. 

 

Withdrawal policy:  

Withdrawal with refund may be requested in writing more than one week prior to programs start date. Any withdrawals or changes will be subject to a $30 administrative fee. There are NO REFUNDS given for withdrawals requested less than one week prior to the first day of the camp or at any time during the camp. Pro-rated refunds are NOT available for days absent from a registered camp. 

 

Photography 

VCS reserves the right to use any photos taken during the summer camp for promotional purposes, unless parents request in writing that their child’s image not appear in any promotional literature.
