Why Encourage Your Child to Join Chess Tournaments?

Tournament participation is an essential part of chess education.

We encourage players of all levels, including beginners, to sharpen their skills by competing regularly:

• Tournaments are organized by player ratings to ensure fair matchups.
• Participation builds resilience, sportsmanship, and character.
• Success is measured by growth, not just results.
• Player's parents are free to join, but their results will not be submitted for CFC rating (i.e., they play as unrated guests).

📋 Tournament Details

🕑 Round Schedule

• 1st Round: 6:00 PM
• 2nd Round: 6:40 PM
• 3rd Round: 7:20 PM

⚠️ On-Site Rules

• Parents are not permitted in the playing area
• Players must remain quiet and respectful during games
• Early departures must be communicated before round 1
• Players are expected to follow instructions from arbiters

♟️ Tournament Rules

• Do not leave your board without arbiter permission
• No talking during the game
• No external help or advice allowed
• Foul play may result in removal from the event
• Arbiters’ decisions are final
• Appeals must be submitted in writing within 48 hours to info@vanchess.ca
• By registering, players and guardians accept all rules and agree that VCS is not liable for any disciplinary action arising from rule enforcement
