1. Introduction
Studying openings is one of the most effective ways of improving your tournament performance and seeing rapid rating increase. VCS is proud to present Live Zoom Opening Workshop series this Summer covering almost all opening repertoire for black. The workshops will be run by world-renowned opening specialist Grandmaster Boris Avrukh. He has authored over a dozen books (https://www.thriftbooks.com/a/boris-avrukh/1006986/) on chess openings and we are very excited for VCS students to learn from his expertise.
As the favourite move of former World Champion Candidate Paul Keres, 1…e5 provokes dynamic and interesting games for players from beginner to World Champion. While the Ruy Lopez is the most common line resulting from this position, there are many other possibilities for White to choose that Black should be familiar with. Keres himself noted that Black has less to fear from White by responding with 1…e5. This 8-week training workshop will cover many important open game lines outside of the Ruy Lopez. The workshop includes famous games, analysis, and the chance to play out key lines against other students. Join now to become well-versed in the less well-known but equally dynamic and often surprising lines of 1…e5!
